With the opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Lille on January 22, striker Mauro Icardi made the 10th goal after 11 appearances for PSG.
The goal in the 17th minute was in the style of Mauro Icardi. He sneaked up behind center back Lille, picking the right position to catch the taut line from the right edge of Idrissa Gueye, before gently cushioning the ball into the open goal. This is the third match in a row, Icardi opened fire. He raised the total number of goals from the beginning for PSG to 10.
From being a backup plan for the main striker in previous seasons Edinson Cavani, Icardi occupied the senior’s senior capacity, and pushed the Uruguayan striker into a gloomy future in Paris. Cavani has made just five starts from the start of the season, scored four goals, and made just one Champions League debut from the bench.
The difference in form between Icardi and Cavani is evident through the first phase, also the only Uruguayan striker when he came on the field at the end of the second half. From the ball and clean the deck of Angel Di Maria, Cavani faced goalkeeper Lille in an empty posture. From a distance of more than 10m, 32-year-old striker tire ball out.
After leaving many pillars like Nicolas Pepe, Rafael Leao, Thiago Mendes and Anwar El Ghazi away in the summer of 2019, Lille tried to overhaul the squad with potential young players like Timothy Weah, Tiago Djalo and Yusuf Yazici. Even so, Christophe Galtier’s army played frivolously from the start of the season. Before guests at the Prince’s Park ground, they only won one of the last nine matches.
The overwhelming force helped PSG control the ball 59% throughout the match. In the second half, taking advantage of Lille’s impatience, Julian Draxler alone threatened the goal three times. In the 83rd minute, the German midfielder was very close to the goal, but his quick shot outside the box made the ball lick the edge of the post.
Winning 2-0, PSG firmly built the top of Ligue 1, 11 points ahead of the second team Marseille and played more than one match.
